Welcome to a new school year at Russell Elementary. A special welcome to new families, new students, new faculty, and staff. The PTC and its committees are already hard at work planning a fun filled and educational year.
What is the PTC and why does Russell Elementary have one?
The PTC stands for Parent-Teacher-Cooperative. We work with the faculty to coordinate, organize, manage, and in some cases, implement activities that enrich our students’ lives. We host family socials, help coordinate enrichment activities, honor our teachers, help purchase additional supplies and capital expenses, and yes, we fundraise.
When does the PTC meet?
Meetings for this year will generally be held the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm in the Library at Russell Elementary School. For the months of February and April due to planned school breaks the PTC meeting will be held on the 2nd Wed of the month. Please join us.

How can I get involved?
Join us at any meeting you are able to make, hear about the upcoming events and efforts being coordinated, and help to either chair a committee, assist during fundraisers, take on a task, or just volunteer your time to come help during an event. As much or as little as you are able to be involved—every effort is appreciated, and helps to foster community in the school.
How is PTC information communicated?
We will attempt to get communication out in various ways. Flyers and Newsletters will come home in your child’s folder. We have a Facebook page, so please search for “Russell Elementary PTC formerly Juniper Park PTC” and like/follow the page for a continuous feed of information sharing. We also have an email distribution list, and a request at the beginning of the year goes out asking families to provide email address so that we may keep the list up to date. (*Email lists are kept private and never distributed to outside sources).

Below is a brief overview of some of the plans underway, please keep in mind that most of this is tentative at this point, but an outline of where we would like to take this year:
- Enrichment Programs: CT Science Center-The Science of Soap, Birds of Prey, Drum Circles, Any other suggestions for these types of programs is welcomed.
- Family Fun Events: Open House-Wednesday September 24th 6:30-7:30, Bingo for Books (TBD), Movie Night, The Thankful Feast.
- PBIS/Give a Hoot Program-ongoing throughout the year.
- Fund Raisers: Themed Basket Raffle (during open house), Calendar Raffle, Box Tops for Education, Coins for Kids.
- Field Trips (one per grade)-Specifics TBD at a later date.
- Field Day/Fun Day-June 2016.
- Teacher Appreciation Week
Please join us at the PTC Meetings to provide ideas, chair committees, or just listen and learn about the PTC and what we do in support of the children at Russell Elementary School.
We hope that you will also support us by attending the events that we have planned. All events are family oriented. Please note that events held after school hours, sponsored by the PTC, require parental supervision unless otherwise noted. All events that are planned after school hours are optional and at the discretion of the parent/guardian. The PTC does not accept responsibility for supervising children during activities outside of school hours. Please review the details of all events prior to attending.
